Sustainable consumption means the usage of products that meet the basic needs of communities while keeping in mind the needs of future generations. As we focus on the leading role young people play in eradicating poverty and achieving sustainable development, we can’t help but think of our role as Scouts.

We are all aware of the importance of making green choices. However, many young people continue to face barriers when wanting to make these green choices, it is important to learn and to inform our peers of what options are out there e.g. services, food production and skills development.

As Scouts we can play an important role through leading by example and encouraging both young adults and youth alike to join our Movement, acquire the skills and even implement projects in and around their communities.

It is up to us, the Scouting youth, to lead and make a difference in our lives and that of others!

Yours in Scouting,

Sibusiso Vilane
