Lekgotla, the what and why your Group should be there!

What is the Lekgotla

The National Partnership Conference, or Lekgotla (meeting place for village assemblies and village leaders) will be the first general meeting of representatives of all Groups. It will be taking place from 6 – 7 October 2017.

Why it’s so important for your Group rep to be there!

In order for national and regional teams to be able to address what you as Groups on the ground experience and need, we need to have a place where we can listen when you, the Groups, talk.

The Lekgotla offers an open engagement forum to give a representative of every Scout Group in good standing the chance to voice their opinions, needs and suggestions and directly influence the strategic direction the Movement is taking in South Africa.

The Lekgotla participants will also be witness to the inauguration of a new Chief Scout and the appointment of Group and Alumni representatives to the new Scout Governing Board and also hopefully meet them.

The Lekgotla logistics

The conference will run from 6 -7 October 2017  at Eagles Nest, Kimberley. Arrival on the 5th of October and departure on the 8th of October.

Accommodation options:

  • FREE: Camping at the venue is free. You would just need to bring your own camping equipment.
  • Hostel accommodation: If 50 people opt for hostel accommodation – the cost for this type of accommodation is R350 per person for three nights. Additional costs would include the bus fare to/from the hostel.
  • B&B accommodation: if members prefer to stay at a B&B, we can advise on options in the area, but this would need to be booked by the participants themselves. Email us: lekgotla@scouts.org.za

URGENT NOTICE: In order to confirm the hostel accommodation and price we need to secure 50 people who want this option. If that is you, please register as soon as possible so we can secure the hostel. Hostel accommodation placement will be on a first come – first served basis.

Travel from your Region to the Lekgotla would be at own cost. Some Regions will receive limited support to facilitate transport and others are looking into arranging combined transport for Regional members.

R100 non-refundable registration fee. SSA has secured funding for the venue and meals.
