Recently, the St Croix Scout Troop arranged to have a Founders’ Day Sunday service at St Agnes Church in Swartkops. The Sunridge and 1st Walmer Scout Groups joined in as a show of support.

The diverse group of Rovers, Scouts, and Cubs started the day with a flag parade into the church. They reaffirmed their respective Promises, and listened to a sermon by St Croix Scout Leader Geoff. He reiterated the values of Scouting and explained how Scouting principles can be applied to the parable of the Good Samaritan. The service was followed by another flag parade, which was a lovely display of local Scouting. The congregation enjoyed and appreciated the service.  as well as the flag pole the Scouts built to fly the SCOUTS South Africa flag.

“As the District Commissioner, I think it is important that we start pulling together and helping each other”, said DC Alex Jenkins. “Many of our local Troops are down to very low numbers, and it is important that we support those who are busy rebuilding.  Our goal as a Region is to try and get the organisational structure up and running. An important part of that is making training accessible. So, we will be hosting a number of training courses soon. We also plan on visiting local schools and promote Scouting so we can increase the membership of nearby Groups. Ultimately, we want to revitalise Scouting in Gqeberha,” he said with a smile.
